MARINE UNIT 179

Marine Unit 179 is a 1996 Alweld aluminum Jon Boat with a 90 horsepower Evinrude motor. Marine Unit 179 is used for water rescues and distressed boaters on the Missouri River. Marine Unit 179 is maintained by the Rescue Squad of the Washington Volunteer Fire Company. Their motto is "Just Follow Us." Washington Fire Department Marine Unit 179 made a dramatic rescue on the early morning hours of May 7,2000. Several victims that were camping on a sandbar island on the Missouri River were brought to safety by Marine Unit 179 during torrential rain and flash flooding on the Missouri River.
